During our healing journey with epilepsy (a path that included both herbal therapies and brain surgery) we came to understand that life, and true healing, thrive through synergy: the intentional collaboration of seemingly different systems that together create something greater than the sum of their parts.
This understanding became a calling. A call to serve, to share, to help others heal as we had. Octava Beauty is the result of that calling.
Why Skin?
We could have chosen more complex or exclusive therapies. But skincare offered something uniquely powerful: a daily, intimate ritual accessible to anyone. A tactile, grounding way to return to the body’s rhythm. With every application, skincare invites presence, a moment of intention, reflection, and restoration.
For us, skincare became a bridge. A medium through which we could apply intention, support vitality, and return to our higher selves, one gentle ritual at a time.
What Makes Octava Different?
Our journey taught us that true progress is not found in extremes but in balance. We call it the The Middle Path: Where nature and technology don’t compete, they collaborate. We walk the path regularly. For instance, we drink from bottled water and communicate through smartphones and computers. We nourish ourselves with natural foods, yet board cars, trains, and planes when we travel. The path is a place where ancient botanicals meet modern science to create skincare that supports the whole being.
At Octava Beauty, this philosophy guides every formula we create.
We don’t chase fads or the rarest-of-the-rare ingredients. We focus on what works and combine them in ways that amplify their individual strengths. This is intentional synergy.
Our Beauty Serum, where we unite baobab oil (elasticity-restoring), prickly pear (antioxidant-rich), and neem oil (clarifying and antibacterial). Or our Coconut Lavender Oil, where deeply hydrating coconut oil meets calming lavender and sebum-balancing jojoba oil. Each formulation is crafted not just for function, but for HARMONY.

Octava (pronounced Octave-Ahh) is inspired by the octave: a return to the same note, but on a higher vibration. We believe each person carries a unique frequency, as distinct as a fingerprint.
This belief was deepened by our experience with a custom herbal remedy that worked specifically for Lauryn, reminding us that healing is not one-size-fits-all. Your rhythm is your own.
On our journey, a drummer once told us: "You are music." He guided us toward African ancestral wisdom, where healing is not sterile or clinical, but rooted in vibration: breath, drumbeat, and touch. Repeated Daily rituals that we often don’t think about but keep us alive. Your breath is a vibration, rising and falling with each inhale, each exhale. Your heart is a beating drum. Our Story.
The Octava story begins with my daughter, Lauryn, who soon after birth began experiencing up to 10 absence seizures daily. These silent episodes left us desperate as we watched her struggle to breathe ... as she froze, her lips pursed and her face turned blue during each and every seizure. We still remember her eyes asking for help and we were (seemingly) helpless. After four years of countless doctor visits, the traditional (prescribed) western medications not resulting in substantive improvement, we decided to explore alternative medicine. After some searching we were fortunate to find a 6'5" bass playing German practitioner (unfortunately he made his transition a few years ago) who quickly diagnosed Lauryn and formulated an oral herb based blend that almost immediately reduced her seizures by 75%.
A year later, Lauryn was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Although benign, the tumor encapsulated her hippocampus (a portion of the brain that stores and recalls memories, the malfunction of which is often associated with dementia), necessitating surgery. After numerous opinions, with heavy hearts we agreed to the procedure, despite the serious risks; including the possibility that she may not remember her family, friends, or even how to speak. She was now 5. Miraculously, shortly after the surgery her seizures stopped. This experience solidified our belief in combining natural herbs and oils (eastern medicine) with conventional western medicine, "the middle path" and for us the beginning of a holistic approach to life.
Years later, inspired by Lauryn’s journey, we began experimenting with essential oils to create new products. Our first formulations were tested by Lauryn’s candid 5th-grade friends. Today, Lauryn, now in her early 20s, is a testament to resilience and success. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Howard University, speaks five languages, and her influence is evident in our multilingual product packaging.
Lauryn is living proof of our philosophy: that healing, like beauty, is not linear. It is a layered, lived rhythm. She walked the middle path. She is proof that when you trust your tone, your vibration, you elevate yourself and everything around you
